Since 1999, Robert Neal Marshall's E-Commerce shop "Transportation Hobby Collectibles Online" (http://www.THCOnline.com) has offered unique gifts for the niche market to customers in every corner of the globe. He turned his personal hobby of collecting vintage airline & ocean liner memorabilia into an internet business. "Rosie O'Donnell was a huge influence when she first began talking about about Ebay." says Marshall, Managing Owner. "I started with auctions and eventually expanded, creating my own E-Commerce Store and started working with a variety of really interesting vendors".
Marshall also has some unusual non-transportation items such as the International Sushi Maker, a super device that turns anyone into a sushi chef in minutes and the MicroBuddy, a 17-piece all in one microwave storage and cooking set. "As my store developed and focused its direction, I discontinued these "As Seen On TV" items. I started getting letters from customers around the world asking me to bring back these hard to find items." Marshall simply added separate sections to his shop. They even have a new branch called MemorySands™ (http://www.MemorySands.com), which offers a beautiful variety of wedding unity sand ceremony glass vase selections with 22 vibrant shades of sand. This new hot wedding trend has been very successful and Marshall regularly finds and adds interesting varieties of glassware from a small heart shaped vase perfect for intimate wedding ceremonies to larger and more elaborate vases for grander events. "We send wedding sand and glass to places like Australia and Japan! It's remarkable!"
Transportation Hobby Collectibles Online definitely has an eclectic selection of gifts that makes the store fun to browse with interesting items. A couple of years ago Pulitzer Prize winning Miami Sun commentator Dave Barry selected an item from THCOnline.com for his annual "Best Worst Gifts" of the season, a live action Titanic model that actually splits in two and sinks. Marshall regrets "those models are long gone and now only occasionally pop up on Ebay for upwards of $300"!
Some of the more popular items, according to Marshall, are three and four bladed replica World War II Warbird ceiling fans, designed to look like the propeller and nose of a classic P-51 Mustang Fighter or P-40 Tiger Shark. Also extremely popular are beautiful mahogany wood hand crafted and die cast metal aircraft models of Military airplanes as well as classic & contemporary airliners. These are anywhere from a few inches up to over 2 feet in length and come with sleek display stands. For the more economical budget, Marshall offers a variety of smaller gift items such as reproduction vintage travel art poster luggage tags and a long list of vintage railroad or Airline Cockpit DVD's, which make great stocking stuffers!
Marshall, who is also an actor and lecturer at sea for the Cunard Insights© Enrichment Programme, has expanded Transportation Hobby Collectibles Online into video production with his recent DVD "THREE QUEENS - AN INTERNATIONAL RENDEZVOUS" all about the historic 2008 Royal Rendezvous in New York and Southampton of the Cunard Liners Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and the late great Queen Elizabeth 2. This unique and critically acclaimed DVD includes the QE2's farewell departure from New York & final tandem transatlantic crossing with QM2 before heading to Dubai, plus a very moving wreath ceremony from QE2 directly over the wreck of Titanic on the 96th Anniversary of her sinking. This collectible DVD is available online as well as on board the Cunard ships. Marshall's next project currently in production, MR OCEAN LINER, features the life and times of Bill Miller, celebrated Maritime Historian and Author of over 70 Ocean Liner books, due for release in 2010 and a definite addition to the website.
