Portland, OR (PRWEB) November 17, 2009
Concrete CMS, developer of next-generation open source solutions for web sites, today announced a new hosting offering. Visitors to concrete5.org can now automatically create a trial website and instantly turn it into a hosted account with support included.
concrete5 has been downloaded about 70,000 times from SourceForge. There are over 20,000 sites on the web that routinely check concrete5.org servers for updates. That only happens if the owner is using the site editing tools frequently, so there's likely a good deal more sites powered with concrete5 around the web. "We're really proud of that almost every other person who downloads our software ends up using it, but in doing the math we realized we're hosting a laughably small number of those installs on our own servers" says Franz Maruna CEO of Concrete CMS.
The concrete5 team has been hosting sites over the last year but didn't really promote the service at all. Every account was made individually by hand, which makes sense for the larger universities and companies that get dedicated servers. That approach completely neglects the DIY small and medium sized organizations that have really started embracing concrete5 in the last year.
"More and more we're seeing bugs reported which we end up tracking down to the install process one of the large budget hosts is using," says Andrew Embler, CTO at Concrete CMS. "We feel obligated to help their customers get a great website but it's pretty frustrating when we're trying to fix something beyond our control, for free."
concrete5 is fully open source and free software, which is easily installed by a web developer on most web servers. Now non-technical site owners can get a site setup in seconds at http://concrete5.org/hosting. Moreover, these accounts come with a support plan that ensures these customers can use the tools and express themselves online.
