Holding a writing contest seemed like a fun and exciting way to get the public involved in nutritional education.

In celebration of National Novel Writing Month and to promote nutritional education, diet delivery company Bistro MD is holding a writing contest. Professional writers, amateur writers, students, and health professionals are all encouraged to enter. The $1,500 writing contest begins today and ends December 18th, 2009.

Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, said, “Let food be thy medicine…” Bistro MD is asking contest participants to explain what this quote means to them.

Chief Operating Officer Dick Bruno tells the company’s motivation behind the event. “We are constantly trying to encourage the public to learn more about nutrition and proper diet,” Bruno says. “Holding a writing contest seemed like a fun and exciting way to get the public involved in nutritional education.”

Bistro MD creator Caroline J. The company is hoping that the writing contest will spark interest in researching the connection between diet and health. A significant amount of money is being offered to the writer with the best essay or short story describing this link.

The contest grand prize is $1,000 with an additional $250 each being offered to the most inspirational and funniest entries.

“There are two upsides to this writing contest,” Bruno says. “One is that many consumers will learn about all the considerable health benefits that come from proper nutrition.” “The other upside is that a few people will have a nice wad of cash to spend for the holidays.”
