The idea for Engage365.org, Omnipress' newest free resource for the association and meeting planning community, grew from a common problem in today’s technology-crazed business world: information overload.

Christopher Uschan, the director of online marketing for Omnipress, said when Omnipress launched the Conference 2.0™ social media platform for events, they started seeking out blogs, LinkedIn groups, articles and other resources that would help meeting planners understand how to best use social media for their events.

"When event planners asked us for help, we found ourselves forwarding 15 Twitter names to follow, 4 Linkedin groups to join and a dozen or so blogs to read," Uschan said. "Then we asked ourselves, 'Who in the world has time to visit all these sites?' We need to make it easier for association and corporate meeting professionals get the answers they need about using social media for events."

Omnipress partnered with SocialFish.org, a social media consulting firm that specializes in associations and non-profits. Together they will launch Engage365, the first online knowledge community dedicated to connecting association and corporate meeting professionals to learn about using social media for events. The site integrates live presentations, interactive discussions and online resources into a one-stop portal for information and networking.

"Your average conference planner is already juggling too many tasks in preparation for an event, and searching online for a social media strategy is way too time consuming," said Engage356 Speaker Tony Veroeven. "Since Engage365 aggregates the best tips, strategies and experiences from meeting planning professionals, social media thought leaders and industry experts, becoming a member of the site is the easiest way to quickly get up to speed about incorporating social media into your event."

Engage365 is powered by Omnipress’ Conference 2.0™ technology, which combines online social technologies, electronic resources and outreach capabilities to maximize networking and learning for an event’s attendees, speakers and sponsors. The Conference 2.0™ platform allows Engage365 members to find other participants with similar interests, engage the community in discussions, access archived presentations and search the community for resources.

Uschan said Engage365 members will be able to sign up for events such as Jessica Levin's and Veroeven's December Webinar, "Social Media at Events," and the January session on creating an event blog taught by SocialFish Chief Social Media Marketer Lindy Dreyer.

The events and the resources are free for members, he said, and anyone who plans or works with events is welcome to join, including meeting planners, conference managers, executive directors, marketing and communication leaders, sponsorship coordinators, education directors, community managers and social media leaders.

"Integrating social media into an event can engage attendees, increase attendance and help an organization reach a larger audience," Uschan said, "and joining Engage365 is the fastest way to discover (and keep on top of) the best social media strategies for today’s events."

In early 2010, Engage365.org members can look forward to these webinar sessions:
