Recent graduates Patrick Porter and Brad Arbab of UCSD have taken matters into their own hands, and refused to become another youth unemployment statistic. They now run a small business in Laguna Beach and Newport Beach, CA, and are busy creating jobs!

"Our families view high quality childcare and tutoring services as an investment, not an expense."

Patrick Porter and Brad Arbab have found a need in their community, and are doing everything they can to fill it. They are keenly aware of the array of pressures facing the modern family: work/life balance, far-flung support systems, extracurricular activities, academic achievement, etc. And so, they have opened the doors to two College Nannies & Tutors franchises in Laguna Beach and Newport Beach, CA. The company mission is to Build Stronger Families™, and they are doing just that. Initial recruitment ads at seven local Orange County colleges have brought in over 70 applicants within the first couple of weeks, and the two grads have recruited the best and brightest. The team plans to hire 60+ more qualified applicants in 2010.

"After graduating into an economy with an overwhelmingly high youth unemployment rate, I decided to take a different approach and create more needed jobs, by starting a small business with College Nannies & Tutors. This allowed me to gain a true entrepreneurial experience, and also an opportunity to improve my community," explains Patrick Porter, General Manager.

On the other side of the equation, phones continue to ring off of the hook, with interested families seeking their services. "Our families view high quality childcare and tutoring services as an investment, not an expense. The services we provide are an investment in their children's education, and more importantly, their future," explains Brad Arbab, Learning Center Director.

Patrick and his team are busy recruiting and filling new nanny and tutor positions in order to serve Orange County's childcare needs. Top recruits are typically high achieving college students and graduates who have the experience and capacity to provide quality childcare. To ensure parental peace of mind, all employees receive a comprehensive background check via TrustLine and are CPR/first aid certified.

Developing a premier nanny and tutor staffing business isn't easy. The two entrepreneurs have dedicated and focused their talents to a franchise from Minnesota-based College Nannies & Tutors, joining a team of 43 small business owners in over 50 communities nationwide. http://www.collegenannies.com Prior to opening the business, they completed two months of intensive training on all aspects of service delivery. According to Patrick, "Partnering with CNT was a win-win due to their professional approach to franchising combined with our shared vision of the business as an engine for job creation in our community."

While the company focuses primarily on academic and child care support for families, its extensive talent network allows it to cater to other clients as well (e.g., enterprises with instruction and translation needs, convention bureaus.) Patrick and Brad share a contagious can-do spirit that allows them to convert ideas into custom solutions for organizations of all sizes and sectors.
