Evergreen Slate Co., Inc. has awarded its 2009 Design Awards to Dehar Associates LLC and Einhorn, Yaffee, Prescott, Architecture and Engineering

The 2009 Design Awards have been presented by Evergreen Slate, Co. Inc. to two professional firms. Dehar Associates LLC won its award for its renovation of the Lakeside Communications Building, University of Connecticut at Storrs. Einhorn, Yaffee, Prescott, Architecture and Engineering won its award for Whitman College, Princeton University.

At a meeting of architects at Evergreen’s Granville NY offices, firms were invited to make a presentation of a project to their peers and to the company. “We are delighted to recognize these firms and their projects with a cash award. This work helps raise the awareness that natural slate continues to make a magnificent and cost effective roof with one of the lowest life cycle costs available”, said Fred Whitridge, President of Evergreen Slate Co. Inc.

Presenting the Whitman College project for Einhorn, Yafee, Prescott Architecture and Engineering was Sal Elder. “This was a big project in scope, scale and time. We had to coordinate an international design team. We had to work to a demanding schedule with a large number of subcontractors. We are delighted with the final product and so is Princeton,” said Mr. Elder. The Whitman College project can be seen at http://www.evergreenslate.com/Whitman.aspx

The Lakeside Communications Building at University of Connecticut - Storrs was presented by Tom Haskell of Dehar Associates LLC. “This renovation had to comply with the University’s master plan and update and expand a building while making it compliant with current accessibility and building codes. Slate was really our only choice and ties the bulding together well,” said Mr. Haskell. The project can be seen at: http://www.evergreenslate.com/Lakeside.aspx
