Nomad Innovations announces its first sale of LiveEdgeTM in the United States to provide live news coverage via WiMAX. The camera mounted unit can replace microwave and satellite trucks making newsgathering easier, faster and less expensive.

Nomad Innovations announces agreement with KPTV in Portland Oregon (a Meredith Broadcasting station) to become the first television station in the United States to transmit live news coverage via its LiveEdge.

The 1.5 pound LiveEdge unit attaches to news cameras and enables live coverage for broadcast, cable or the web via high-bandwidth wireless and/or wired broadband networks like WiMAX, all without using a live truck or microwave network. (http://LiveEdge.tv )

Nomad Innovations will deliver multiple LiveEdge2.0 field and studio units to KPTV in the company’s first U.S. sale. Last month, Nomad Innovations announced its first international sale to C5N, a 24-hour news television network in Buenos Aires, Argentina. (http://LiveEdge.tv/news.html)

LiveEdge will enable KPTV to aggressively and economically expand their current newsgathering operations throughout Portland and surrounding communities. KPTV General Manager Patrick McCreery said “this technology is going to revolutionize the way we do business and will fundamentally change how we collect and distribute live news. This is a more effective and affordable way to ‘Go Live’ with breaking news as well as a unique and innovative way for us to create new revenue generating services.” By utilizing available 4G and 3G networks, the LiveEdge technology will significantly reduce KPTV’s operating expenses when compared to their current usage of legacy microwave and satellite technology.

LiveEdge sets up in seconds and requires no engineering support. News crews can be on the air with breaking news in a fraction of the time required for setting up microwave shots. Live events can be covered without deploying production units.

LiveEdge offers news crews a robust two-way audio/video/data connection between the scene of a news story and the studio. LiveEdge provides secure connectivity to iNews, ENPS, non-linear editing and other production systems. A return path provides IFB and Intercom via a Bluetooth interface as well as confidence video or teleprompter.

LiveEdge can transmit video via 3G and 4G networks in NTSC, PAL, SDI and HD formats. Nomad Innovations has 11 patent applications pending for its hardware and software.

Bob Klingle, CEO of Nomad Innovations, said “This agreement with KPTV reflects our commitment in moving a global industry into a new generation of technology for electronic news gathering. As a visionary in their market, KPTV is the perfect partner for us to establish our domestic presence while providing them the opportunity to be the first broadcaster in the US to “go live” with our solution. With other international and US deployments about to occur, look for many more announcements from Nomad in the very near future.”
