The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and NextGen Inc. have entered into an agreement to further develop NextGen’s Intelligent - Integrated Stand Off Detection System (ISOD). ISOD, built using NextGen’s patent pending technology, enables military and civilian security personnel to detect and identify explosive devices and banned narcotics from a safe distance. The company anticipates that ISOD will reduce warfighter casualties, decrease the costs associated with repairing and replacing damaged equipment, improve safety at airports and seaports, and increase throughput at security checkpoints.
Under the agreement, NPS will provide NextGen with technical expertise to improve ISOD’s imaging system. NextGen expects that this assistance will increase the product’s effectiveness when used to locate improvised explosive devices (IEDs), devices that continue to present threats to US and allied forces operating in both the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters. NPS will also conduct additional research and laboratory tests on ISOD’s source technology.
“We are very pleased to have the skill and resources of NPS assisting our company in this important endeavor,” stated Ross Shariati, president of NextGen. “The agreement provides us with additional testing facilities and access to some of the preeminent minds working to solve the IED problem in the near-term, and, in the long-term, to improve the safety of military personnel and civilians alike. We look forward to working with NPS and are eager to begin further testing.”
