In 2004, Jameela was voted into the top four finalists of the Great American Mutt Contest out of nearly 1,500 contestants. She did not win the contest, but she did find a new loving home in the United States.

Jameela was rescued in 2003 by a soldier who found her in Iraq after she had been beaten by some of the local residents. She endured a very long journey to finally make it to her home in Colorado.

Jameela now has a new Children’s Book about her true life encounters with soldiers in Iraq and her adventurous journey to the United States and eventually Colorado. The book, Jameela’s Big Adventure, is the story of a scared and stranded little puppy in Iraq who faces many challenges. She is abandoned by her mother and learns to fear humans when she is kicked and beaten by locals. Thanks to some kind humans, she eventually learns to trust them. Jameela begins an extraordinary adventure that introduces her to many people, places, animals, and finally, a new home.

“Whenever I told my family and friends about Jameela’s amazing story, they always told me that I should write a book about her adventures” said Denise Howard, author of the book.

The story is written and illustrated by two Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans and is now available online. For more information, visit http://www.jameelasbigadventure.com.
