Lehigh Valley, Pa. (Vocus) December 3, 2009
With cold winter weather imminent, it is never too early to start thinking of a winter getaway close to home. The ski resorts of Lehigh Valley, located less than two hours west of New York City and an hour north of Philadelphia, provide outstanding skiing, snowboarding and tubing for snow lovers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Special “Stay & Ski” packages (lehighvalleyski.com) allow snow lovers to ski, snowboard or tube the slopes at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie or Blue Mountain Ski Area in Palmerton and then relax overnight in accommodations at one of 13 local hotels and inns. Rates start at $54.00 per person, per night for overnight accommodations and a voucher for a lift ticket or tubing at either mountain.
Bear Creek, a 330-acre resort with a luxurious mountainside hotel, features 21 trails and seven lifts (including a quad lift) on more than 86 acres as well as three terrain parks on over 13 acres. The mountain also includes a family terrain park, premium snowmaking technology and a snow tubing park. For non-skiers, the resort has a full-service salon and spa and two dining facilities. http://www.bcmountainresort.com
Blue Mountain boasts the highest vertical drop in the state (1,082 ft.) with two hi-speed detachable lifts as well as a six-seater and a quad. There are also four terrain parks for snow boarders, 34 trails and 19 snowtubing slides. The mountain offers trails for every level of skier and snowboarder from beginner to advanced. For families with small children, Blue Mountain has babysitting services available. The resort also features two lodges with various dining options and a relaxing atmosphere. http://www.skibluemt.com
