Plans to Increase Energy Efficiency and Consolidate Ann Arbor Data Centers

We rely on Online Tech’s data center to maintain server up-time during power interruptions and to provide continuous Internet access during network interruptions. The stability and predictability of working with Online Tech has allowed us to commit to longer-term opportunities

Online Tech, a fast growing managed data center operator, announced today that it is shutting down its smallest Ann Arbor data center. The center is its oldest, least efficient data center and no longer meets Online Tech’s high-end infrastructure standards of redundancy and reliability. Current clients will be upgraded to Online Tech’s recently acquired, more efficient data center located in the Avis Farms technology center on the south side of Ann Arbor.

This move is part of a larger business plan which began this past July when Online Tech sold its 15-year-old web hosting business to IGD Solutions to focus on its rapidly expanding colocation and managed dedicated server business. Online Tech’s growing client base includes Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies, financial and medical institutions, web hosting companies, and a broad range of mid-size businesses – all requiring top of the line reliability, scalability and uptime.

“We rely on Online Tech’s data center to maintain server up-time during power interruptions and to provide continuous Internet access during network interruptions. The stability and predictability of working with Online Tech has allowed us to commit to longer-term opportunities,” says Douglas Zimmer, CEO and co-owner of Center for Information Management (CIM).

The confidence of clients like CIM, a SaaS company, comes from knowing that Online Tech is continuously improving the level of service at its data centers. Online Tech recently added a second fiber path into its Avis Farms Data Center to eliminate the risk of a failed Internet connection to its clients’ servers. In upgrading its clients, Online Tech will provide more room and power for growth, stronger security, better accessibility and a raised floor environment delivering more energy efficient heating and cooling.

“As we’ve continued to invest in our newest data centers, it became clear that our oldest data center in downtown Ann Arbor was terribly inefficient, expensive to operate, and lacked the redundancy and uptime capabilities required by the customer base we serve. By upgrading our clients to our Avis data center, we are able to offer them the benefits of a world class data center and increased redundancy for no extra cost,” says Mike Klein, President of Online Tech.

Online Tech will make continued investments in the latest technology available for its existing sites and future data centers. Consolidating its Ann Arbor Data Center positions Online Tech to focus on the growth of its managed data center operations without compromising on the quality and reliability of its offerings.
