Mom Launches Break-through Green Fundraising Alternative for US Schools

Frustrated by non-earth friendly fundraisers, a mother of two has launched Bright Green Markets, a fundraising alternative for environmentally committed schools. The timing couldn't be more perfect. This breakthrough green alternative in the world of school fundraising is likely a relief to parents, grandparents and supporters of US schools who don't want to spend their hard earned money on products they don't need or use this holiday season.

The idea for Bright Green Markets (BGM) arose from the frustrations of Founder Martha Seabrook, mother of two young boys. At no cost, BGM provides each school with a custom website, url address, support materials and promotional ideas to jump start the campaign. Each website boasts a savings calculator as you shop to make the buyer aware of the money-saving attributes of using environmentally-friendly products.

Riverwood International Charter School in Atlanta, GA, branded and launched http://www.RiverwoodGreenMarkets in October. Having custom content and images on the fund-raising website has opened up new opportunities to promote the Environmental and Recycling Clubs, and the school’s green fund-raising goals. “This is the perfect extension to the values of our school, our students and our parents," said Riverwood Environmental Club Advisor Nico Moorman who plans to use the funds to purchase a solar water heater at the school.

Most of the Bright Green Market products offered by the eco-stores help the buyer save money on their energy bill and reduce carbon emissions. Each school’s custom on-line marketplace will offer products ranging from everyday items like CFL light bulbs and rechargeable batteries to more sophisticated and innovative products for consumers ready to make greener choices in their homes.    They’ve even included several products with kids in mind like messenger bags made out of recycled billboards and solar phone chargers.

Each product ships directly to the customer eliminating product sorting, money collections and distribution by volunteers or staff. There is no cost to the fund-raising organization.
