"Goodness, where do I even begin?!!! I had a VBAC Waterbirth in May 2009 at Aqua Natal Birth Center with Joyce Moxley Thomas (Licensed Midwife) and her daughter Lynn Ashworth (a student midwife).
I was extremely fortunate to find the Birth Center for my VBAC after the debacle that was Anthem Blue Cross and Pomona Valley Hospital. I had had an emergency C-Section with my first son and when I found out I was pregnant for a second time, all I knew was that I was going to have a natural birth. Anthem and Pomona Valley ended their relationship and my OB/Gyn terminated my care in my 3rd trimester. I was sentenced to go to San Antonio Hospital and thus referred to an OB/Gyn who would deliver my baby ONLY by Cesarean. After learning that I was not interested in a repeat C-Section, the nurse practitioner told me she was sorry she wasted my time. They were under the impression that I was a repeat Cesarean.
Dumped again, I decided to take matters into my own hands. In an instant, the planets and stars aligned and I found myself at the haven that is the AquaNatal Birth Center. I received the best prenatal care by my midwife, Joyce and her daughter, Lynn. It was very nurturing, caring, respectful, encouraging, supportive and the list goes on. The first time I met with Joyce it felt like I had been with an old friend. I didn't feel part of an assembly line that was my past OB/Gyn experience. They took really great care of me.
The day of my birth, I used my Hypnobabies (which the center offers as part of the package) to get through my early and active labor. My labor started about 7:30 AM, I napped in between my pressure waves (contractions), arrived at the Center about 7:45 PM, was checked at 8 PM and was dilated 6 almost 7 cm, jumped into the Birth Tub, was checked again at 9 PM and was 7 almost 8 cm dilated and my second son was born with no pain, just pressure at 10:14 PM!! I had a beautiful, completely organic, natural water birth! After experiencing the Midwife Model of Care, I now know it is the only way for a woman to birth. If you are pregnant or plan to be, do yourself a favor and visit AquaNatal - you will not be disappointed." -- Briseli B.
Having your baby at AquaNatal assures:
- Quality care for mothers and newborns – CPMs provide evidence-based, prevention-oriented and health-promoting care, with more babies that are healthy, full weight and full term, and much lower rates of cesarean section and medical interventions.
- Reduce costs – The reduction in interventions, unnecessary cesarean sections, and the associated increased health status of mothers and babies. Under the care of CPMs there is a cost savings to you and your insurance company. Most birth centers charge less than a third of what a normal labor and birth costs with a physician/hospital.
- Guaranteed choice – When CPMs are included in a federal insurance program, CPMs and out-of- hospital birth would be available to all women, not just those who can afford to pay out-of-pocket.
Joyce Moxley Thomas is a wife, mother of 4 and grandmother. She was a homebirth midwife in the 1970s-1980s and is now licensed as a Certified Professional Midwife by the California Medical Board.
