DFJ Frontier, RPM Ventures, and Anthem Venture Partners Invest in Leading Provider of Online Identity and Customer Engagement Solutions

JanRain is revolutionizing the online identity space for the benefit of website operators and consumers

JanRain, Inc. (http://www.janrain.com), the leading provider of online identity technology and customer engagement services, today announced that the company has closed a $3.25 million Series A round of venture capital financing. The financing was led by DFJ Frontier with participation from RPM Ventures and Anthem Venture Partners. In connection with the financing, David Cremin, a managing director of DFJ Frontier, Tony Grover, a managing director of RPM Ventures, and Samit Varma, a partner at Anthem Venture Partners, will join JanRain’s board of directors. The funds will be used to expand the company’s product offerings for website operators and platform partners as well as to grow the company’s sales and marketing efforts.

JanRain’s flagship product, RPX (http://www.rpxnow.com), is an enterprise-class software as a service (SaaS) solution being used on more than 170,000 websites around the world. RPX enables website operators to register and login visitors with their Facebook, Google, Yahoo!, Twitter, MySpace, AOL, Hotmail, Windows Live ID or other OpenID accounts; to import rich user profile data and address books; and to publish user activity to multiple social networks. Offering the richest feature set and extensive deployment options, RPX is the most comprehensive third-party authentication and publishing solution on the market. It provides an optimal user experience and can be deployed and integrated into a website’s existing registration system within a day, often in just a couple of hours.

“JanRain is revolutionizing the online identity space for the benefit of website operators and consumers,” said Cremin. “Like Akamai did with CDNs and Salesforce did with CRM, JanRain is fundamentally changing online identity management, making registration, login, and user data management dramatically more intuitive and convenient.”

“This venture capital investment is a gratifying endorsement of JanRain’s vision and value proposition,” said Brian Kissel, chief executive officer, JanRain. “JanRain will continue to innovate and lead the industry by providing turnkey solutions that empower website operators to fully benefit from the recent trend toward user-managed identity and social networking. Our new investors are ideal partners to accelerate our growth.”

JanRain’s RPX is used by leading companies including Sears, Kmart, FOX News, Tribune Interactive, Scout24, Universal Music Group, EMI Music, and Qype, and by leading technology platforms including Get Satisfaction, KickApps, Uservoice, Viewpoints, and Wetpaint.
