Expansion marks award-winning graphic-design studio fifth anniversary

Northwest graphic design studio Turnstyle celebrated its fifth anniversary this fall. Turnstyle will be expanding its Northwest scope by establishing a stronger presence in Portland and will be moving to Ballard's new mixed-use building, The Kolstrand Building, in the first quarter of 2010.

In its first five years of business, Turnstyle has won numerous awards and accolades, worked with many regional and national brands and companies, and were recently named a finalist of Washington's "2009 Best Workplaces" by the Puget Sound Business Journal. Founded by graphic designers Ben Graham, Steve Watson and project manager Matt Diefenbach, Turnstyle launched in August of 2004. DRY Soda Co. and Teague were among the studio's first clients and helped build Turnstyle's reputation for smart, innovative and often humorous design. "We have created unique and memorable brands, printed collateral, packaging and web sites," said Ben Graham, Turnstyle Principal. "Our team is a combination of extremely talented designers and dedicated client relations specialists. We are driven to provide the very best design services for our clients."

The studio hired its first employee in July of 2005, and now boasts 11 employees and a client portfolio that includes regional and national companies such as Microsoft, Nordstrom, Reebok and Starbucks. With the addition of an account manager in Portland, Turnstyle will be concentrating on an expansion of its regional focus. "We are very proud of how much we've accomplished since our inception," said Turnstyle Principal Matt Diefenbach. "Turnstyle is a fun, close-knit and creative environment that is energizing to work in every day. Our growth in Portland and our relocation into the Kolstrand Building will fuel new creativity and perspective."

Turnstyle's work has recently been featured in the following publications:

  •     Communication Arts: Fresh
  •     IdN (International Design Network): Self-Promotion Issue
  •     Reddot: Communication Design Award

In a crowded marketplace, people gravitate toward companies and products that project a distinctive style. Seattle-based Turnstyle uses design to elevate its clients' brands, communicate a distinct personality, and break through marketplace clutter. The result is a strong, emotional connection between audiences and brands. A passionate and focused design studio, Turnstyle has the flexibility to develop innovative print and digital design solutions for clients of diverse backgrounds and sizes.
