Prodigy Diabetes Care, LLC – an affiliate of Diagnostic Devices Inc. –has been named the Charlotte region’s fastest growing privately held company by the Charlotte Business Journal at an awards luncheon Thursday, topping 49 other quickly growing area businesses.

Prodigy Diabetes Care and Diagnostic Devices Chief Operating Officer Rick Admani Abulhaj accepted the award at the Charlotte Convention Center on behalf of his employees Dec. 3.

“I’m honored and humbled to accept this award on behalf of my entire team at Prodigy®, especially considering all of the fine companies in this competition,” Abulhaj said. “We’ve all worked so very hard to get where we are, while providing diabetics around the world with the most cutting-edge and reliable meters and supplies. And we’re not done growing. We plan to continue our rapid growth, right here in Charlotte.”

Prodigy® plans to add as many as 150 jobs in the upcoming year. It plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Charlotte in early January. The company is relocating manufacturing operations to Charlotte from factories in China and Taiwan.

Last month, Prodigy Diabetes Care and DDI became the preferred provider of diabetes testing supplies to North Carolina Medicaid recipients, a $33-million contract for the company that is expected to save the state $7 million.

With new products in research and development that are planned for launch next year, the company expects continued rapid growth, Abulhaj said.

“I’d like to congratulate all of the Fast 50 companies, for being examples of success and business leadership during these trying economic times,” Abulhaj said. “And thank you to the Charlotte Business Journal and all of the event sponsors for holding this showcase for successful local entrepreneurs.”

The awards were based on fastest growth percentage during the past three years.
