Emergencies happen when we least expect them, so it's best to always be prepared. Such a notion is the defining factor behind Established in October of 2009, this Web site is the brainchild of brothers Dave and Dick Phillips.

"Our parents taught us to be self-sufficient and we have raised our own families accordingly. We feel strongly about helping others to become prepared; there is a peace of mind that comes from the knowledge that you and your family are prepared. Being prepared is a way of life we'd like to promote through our Web site," Dick said.

At, shoppers will find an extensive variety of emergency preparedness products including survival kits for families, classrooms and workplaces; they even carry travel kits for automobiles, hiking and camping.

"Our selection of first-aid kits ranges from pocket-sized to trauma and triage kits that are equipped to treat up to 1,000 people," Dave said.

Their Web site promotes three principals to live by in preparation for an unanticipated disaster. First, don't be caught waiting for government aid; second, is the "YoYo Principle," which infers "You're On Your Own." And, the third is everyone needs to take action before the emergency occurs. Be prepared!

The Web site also includes an abundance of safety information, which can easily be downloaded from their site. This information is provided by organizations such as the American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In addition, the Phillips brothers recommend that people become Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) certified. This training educates people in emergency preparedness and crisis management. CERT training is usually conducted at local fire stations. To learn more about becoming CERT certified, call your local fire station.

Their inventory consists of a variety of official CERT equipment, including Actions Response Kits. Official CERT gear makes it easy to identify CERT volunteers during emergencies.

Everyone is encouraged to visit the Web site's newly implemented blog, This interactive tool will be used to discuss how to become prepared plus the benefits of being prepared.

"Remember, the question isn't if an emergency will happen, it's when it will happen," Dick said.
