Leading title insurance provider manages DNS for all company locations with OpenDNS.

OpenDNS, provider of the world's leading Internet navigation and security services that make networks safer, faster, smarter and more reliable, today announced that Titleserv, a leading provider of title insurance, appraisal, and settlement services nationwide, has enabled OpenDNS subscription services across networks for its New York headquarters and branch office locations around the United States.

Titleserv initially sought a secure DNS solution after Dan Kaminsky now famously discovered a flaw in the global Domain Name System. Understanding the importance of the DNS layer and aiming to protect the networks at its locations around the country before the flaw became a problem for the company, network administrators began exploring options.

"In the past we had our internal DNS servers make recursive queries to the Internet. We wanted to use forwarders and were initially utilizing our ISP's DNS servers. However, when the lack of DNS entropy flaw was uncovered we wanted to protect ourselves from any attacks based on that flaw. OpenDNS was protected against it before our ISP was," said Michael Dragone, Network Administrator at Titleserv. "We looked at everything available and OpenDNS was by far the best."

Dragone and others were happily using OpenDNS Basic, the free version of the service, on their home networks and elected to trial the Enterprise version at Titleserv. The trial period was met with the utmost success and the company moved to deploy OpenDNS subscription services enterprise-wide. The entire deployment was completed in under one hour and immediately Dragone and team were able to manage DNS across all locations from one centralized, Web-based dashboard and without appliances. So far, the OpenDNS statistics have provided rich insight into DNS and trends on the Titleserv networks.

"We saw many queries for some domains that we didn't expect and it turned out to be problematic software. We were able to investigate further and solve the issue," said Dragone. "OpenDNS stats provide insight we wouldn't otherwise have. The service is easy to test and deploy, easy to manage, and much faster to respond to queries than other DNS services."

OpenDNS subscription services include both OpenDNS Deluxe and OpenDNS Enterprise. Both new services are delivered in response to customer demand and build upon OpenDNS's award-winning, cloud-based comprehensive Web content filtering and security services, rock-solid reliable DNS platform and intelligent Internet navigation features.
