This important contract win demonstrates Rapiscan's growth in the commercial sector, where we are increasingly supporting multi-national companies such as EDF.
Torrance, CA (Vocus) December 10, 2009
Rapiscan Systems, a leading supplier of security inspection systems, today announced that its French-based distributor, Hi-Tech Detection Systems (HTDS), has been selected by EDF Energy, one of Europe’s top energy companies, to secure the entrances of multiple EDF power plants using Rapiscan Systems’ advanced x-ray security screening equipment.
During the first phase of the contract, Rapiscan Systems will replace EDF’s older, legacy equipment with multiple advanced Rapiscan 620XR checkpoint x-ray scanners and 627XR large parcel x-ray inspection systems. The Rapiscan Systems equipment will be used to scan bags, parcels and other items at the entrances of EDF plants in France. The contract also includes a multi-year service, warranty and maintenance agreement. The total value of the contract is approximate 2 million euros.
The Rapiscan 620XR is an advanced checkpoint parcel security system designed for protection of critical infrastructure as well as aviation, defence and law enforcement applications. The Rapiscan 627XR features a 1 meter by 1 meter tunnel size, which makes it ideal for screening large parcels and small cargo. Both systems are built on a modular platform that makes it easy to install and maintain, and come with features such as dual-energy detection, a streamlined, ergonomic design, and Rapiscan’s feature-rich OS600 system software. Both systems are capable of detecting organic and inorganic threats and come with Rapiscan’s advanced Threat Image Projection (TIP), which inserts digital threat images at configurable frequencies into the regular flow of bags to facilitate operator training.
EDF Energy specified that the equipment deployed should meet the standards established by French regulator, STAC. The installation of the Rapiscan 620XR and 627XR systems has enabled HTDS to meet this requirement. In addition to meeting STAC standards, the 620XR and 627XR have been approved for use by international regulatory agencies worldwide.
Guillaume Auffret, commercial manager, HTDS, said, “Providing systems that had STAC certification was very important to EDF Energy as it guarantees the equipment for use. We were able to recommend the Rapiscan 620XR and 627XR not only because they meet this criteria, but also because they perfectly address EDF’s needs on a functional level. Rapiscan’s wide and reliable product range has helped it succeed in the French market and makes it suitable for deployment in many different environments and applications.”
Ajay Mehra, President of Rapiscan Systems, stated: “This important contract win demonstrates Rapiscan’s growth in the commercial sector, where we are increasingly supporting multi-national companies such as EDF.” Mr. Mehra continued: “This contract also illustrates the unique ability of Rapiscan and top security companies such as HTDS to develop solutions tailored to customers’ requirements.”
