Holiday Gift Book for Pet Lovers Brings Comfort and Joy

A newly released memoir about caring for a dying pet and finding peace in the process is a gift that keeps on giving.

“It is so well written that you become a bystander observing the story from within, and the compassion for the vital connection we share with this wonderful kingdom oozes out of and between the lines.” –Martin Goldstein, DVM, The Nature of Animal Healing

A new book, The Legacy of Beezer and Boomer, is touching the hearts of animal lovers this holiday season. It is a true story about a guy who struggled to cope when his Labrador retriever was dying. Now his story is helping others. Exclusive copies are available in time for the holidays at http://www.BeezerAndBoomer.com.

Ironically, it was two days before Christmas in 2005 when Doug Koktavy, a Denver attorney, had just gotten the news that his beloved Beezer had ninety days to live. Shocked and unable to come to grips with the knowledge that he was losing his best friend, Doug cancelled Christmas that year. What followed were some of the lowest lows and highest highs of his life as Doug cared for and prepared for the last goodbye.

“A book with lessons on dealing with the dying of a pet is sorely needed these days,” says Koktavy. “More than half of Americans treat their pets as family; some say the number is closer to eighty percent. That is a huge number of people who will be outliving their family members. My story gives hope and help, and also is a gift that keeps on giving. Since both my dogs were my teachers during their lives, my plan is to honor them by creating a fundraising project to help nonprofit animal organizations. Every book sold through an affiliate nonprofit’s website earns the organization $10. In a time when people are opening their hearts and wallets, these donations can make a real difference to a struggling animal group.”

Individuals who know a rescue group, animal shelter, or other nonprofit animal organization and want to help can spread the word about this unique affiliate program and direct them to http://www.BeezerAndBoomer.com/NPO.html

The Legacy of Beezer and Boomer: Lessons on Living and Dying from My Canine Brothers, published by B Brothers Press, is a hardcover book with 328 pages, photos and illustrations. It is only available through http://www.BeezerAndBoomer.com. However, if a copy is purchased through a nonprofit’s link to Koktavy’s website, the nonprofit will earn forty percent of the sale.

When he is not publishing and marketing his new book, Doug Koktavy is a creditor’s attorney in Denver. He has played ice hockey and competed in triathlons, and enjoys sharing his free time helping local animal organizations.
