In the shadow of the awe-inspiring rise of the JW Marriott, a unique trio of select service Marriott hotels at the Marriott Place development is now revving up for its own groundbreaking news.
Located between Maryland and Washington streets on the west side of West Street, three different Marriott brand hotels will open at the same location, bringing a combined 621 new rooms to downtown Indianapolis in February 2010. The 168-room Fairfield Inn & Suites, along with an on-premises TGI Friday’s restaurant, will open Feb. 3, followed on Feb. 26 by the 297-room Courtyard by Marriott and the 156-room SpringHill Suites.
Although they will have distinct operations, the three hotels will be marketed as a single destination by White Lodging, the development and management firm for Marriott Place. The new hotels will represent the latest and best features of each brand, said Michael Kauffeld, general manager of the Courtyard and SpringHill hotels.
“It will be top-of-the-line Marriott quality and service from top to bottom,” said Kauffeld. Reservations can be made at any of the hotels via a single reservation center and they will share a common theme of “The Place To Be in Indy.”
“This gives travelers a terrific choice of different kinds of lodging at different price points — all in one fantastic location,” said Kim Meyerholtz, general manager of the Fairfield Inn & Suites. “There are a number of full service hotels downtown, so this development brings some new, quality choices to travelers who want to spend less without all the full-service frills.” Both Meyerholtz and Kauffeld are veterans with Marriott Hotels, counting several management awards between them.
Superior choice and convenience
“One key ingredient that makes this development the place to be in Indy is its incredible access to major attractions,” affirmed Kauffeld. Starting with Victory Field (home of the Indians, Indianapolis’ minor league baseball team) adjacent to the south, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian & Western Art adjacent to the north, and the skybridge connection to the Indiana Convention Center and Circle Centre Mall, a long list of attractive destinations are within blocks of the hotels in every direction. For those who work and play on the Internet, the hotels will be a special treat in terms of complimentary high-speed wired and wireless Internet access in all guest rooms, providing connections four times the speed of most other select service hotels, said Meyerholtz. In addition, for an extra $5 per 24 hours, that connection can be boosted to access that is 10 times faster than most comparable hotels.
Other cutting edge, high-tech touches can be found in the Courtyard by Marriott lobby, which blends a contemporary living room look with “Media Pod” gathering spaces that feature LCD TVs, complimentary Internet access and plenty of power outlets for electronic devices. A huge touch screen also provides visitor information and directions.
Something for every taste
The Bistro is also located in the Courtyard lobby and serves coffee drinks and breakfast as well as evening dinner fare and cocktails. Catering to the business traveler, the Courtyard is known for extra-special appointments, from luxuriously thick mattresses to ergonomic workstations.
At a moderate price point, SpringHill Suites provides stylishly furnished, smartly designed and spacious studio suites that are up to 25 percent larger than standard hotel rooms for what it calls a “refreshing change from the ordinary.” Each suite has a complete pantry area, including sink. microwave and refrigerator. The brand is also known for its hot Suite Seasons Breakfast Buffet.
The Fairfield Inn & Suites offers the most affordable Marriott gateway to downtown attractions while providing amenities such as the on-premises TGI Friday’s and a robust complimentary breakfast that includes Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, Bold Beginnings® coffee, cereal and fresh fruit. Thirty-four of its rooms are suites that include refrigerators, microwaves and stereo systems.
All the hotels have room service from TGI Friday’s, fitness centers and business centers.
