Each year, U.S. companies waste billions of dollars powering unused computers

New Boundary Technologies® today launched PwrSmart™ 3.0, the latest version of the company’s simple, automated PC power management solution designed to help companies reduce energy consumption, extend the life of IT assets and support green IT initiatives.

Today’s announcement comes as representatives from more than 190 countries continue to gather in Copenhagen at the U.N. Climate Change Conference to seek consensus on an international strategy for fighting global warming. According to industry estimates, when implemented correctly, PC power management can enable organizations to reduce their overall energy consumption up to 15 percent – creating a smaller carbon footprint for the company and lowering its overall impact on the environment.

“Each year, U.S. companies waste billions of dollars powering unused computers,” said Tom Diamond, president of New Boundary Technologies. “Regardless of where you stand on climate change, every business is looking for ways to reduce energy consumption and get more from IT assets. Using PwrSmart 3.0 to proactively manage PC power consumption can help cut PC energy costs by 60 percent; those are real savings that can be generated with minimal time, effort and expense. What’s good for the environment can also be good for the bottom line.”

Key PwrSmart Features
New features and functionality in PwrSmart 3.0 include the ability to schedule numerous actions, such as complete PC shut downs, hibernations or wake-up events. PwrSmart 3.0 also has the capability to exclude power management actions with consideration for critical running applications, work schedules and maintenance – minimizing end-user impact.

Leveraging patented technology, PwrGroups™ make it simple for IT administrators to dynamically target and group computer configurations with similar power management requirements – standardizing PC power management across an organization. This same technology also automatically monitors systems for configuration changes and continuously enforces selected power management profiles and settings, even if end-users try to disable or change them.

Other PwrSmart Features

  • PwrSmart comes with pre-packaged, U.S. EPA-recommended PC power management schemes; power schemes are also completely customizable and can accommodate multiple power schedules per PC.
  • PwrSmart’s energy savings calculator displays real-time insight and savings resulting from standardized PC power management. The product’s flexible reporting engine also allows organizations to demonstrate compliance with corporate policies and provide quantitative data for energy rebates and sustainability reports.
  • PwrGroups can be built based on Active Directory® groups, PC location, IP address ranges, hardware configuration, operating system languages, time zones or numerous other settings and configurations.
  • PwrSmart is compliant with the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR requirements for PC power management solutions. New Boundary Technologies is an ENERGY STAR Service and Product Provider partner.
