Encyclopaedia Britannica president Jorge Cauz issued a statement following the death of Robert P. Gwinn, the company's former chairman and CEO.

Jorge Cauz, president of Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc., today issued the following statement about the death yesterday of the company’s former chairman and chief executive officer, Robert P. Gwinn.

“We’re saddened by the news of Robert Gwinn’s passing. He steered Britannica through a period of change and growth, from the early days of the 15th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica through the 1980s and early 1990s, when our business expanded and we undertook a number of important international publishing initiatives. His influence on the company continues to be felt, and we will always be grateful for his contributions.”

Gwinn chaired the company from 1973 to 1993, assuming that position a short time after the death of Britannica’s longtime owner and publisher, William Benton.
