I too would love for Nigel (the happiest and most gentle store assistant in Portishead in my opinion) to turn on the Portishead Xmas lights. Who needs a celeb when we have Nigel!
London, UK (PRWEB) December 17, 2009
A sales assistant for bathroom and furniture specialists, Homebase, has turned on the Portishead Christmas lights this year, taking the honour from his only rival, Hollywood star, Johnny Depp. Nigel Parker, 21 has been working at the Portishead store for just over two years and within that time has gained quite a fan base thanks to his excellent customer service and friendly, helpful manner.
Bob Mirams, Homebase Portishead store manager says, "Nigel is an incredibly popular member of the team and is well liked by colleagues and customers alike. Customers have been known to wait in line to be served by Nigel, even though other tills may be open. We receive calls almost daily praising Nigel for his friendly demeanour and positive attitude."
The facebook group, Nigel from Homebase, was set up nominating Nigel to turn on the lights this Christmas. The group has nearly 900 members, which saw new supporters join daily in the run up to the announcement. One member of the group, Patrick Smith, commented, "I too would love for Nigel (the happiest and most gentle store assistant in Portishead in my opinion) to turn on the Portishead Xmas lights. Who needs a celeb when we have Nigel!"
Local media approached Barry Randall, the Treasurer of the Christmas Lights Committee, as Johnny Depp was spotted in the town, sparking a Facebook group calling for him to be the chosen celebrity to turn on the Christmas lights. Although Depp was last week named People magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive', Nigel is so loved by the local public, it is him that they have chosen to oversee the big switch on.
Barry said, "Nigel has become a local celebrity, by the best way possible; being kind, helpful and attentive, which at 21 years of age is wonderful. He is one of the nicest people I have met and is a fantastic role model, not just for other young people but all of us and I'm thrilled that Nigel has switched on the Portishead Christmas lights this year."
Homebase is supporting the Christmas Lights in Portishead this year and making a donation to the entirely voluntary event.
