On November 17th over fifty IT executives gathered at the CAPS Shelton CT data center at the Enterprise Corporate Park for the first Hot Ideas Symposium co-hosted by Revco, a regional Value Added Reseller (VAR) with over forty-one years of experience, and Computer Alternative Processing Sites (CAPS), Inc., a leading IT infrastructure solutions provider.
The day-long joint event included networking-oriented breakfast and lunch breaks coupled with presentations and interactive discussions. General and technical presentations addressed both existing and future solutions impacting data centers, as well as disaster recovery and business continuity planning, implementation, operations and cost-related issues. The symposium’s featured speakers were management and technical executives from Datalink Corporation (NASDAQ: DTLK), Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT), Server Technology, AVTECH Software, Cooper B-Line and CAPS.
The morning began with Revco president Mr. Bob Von Stein’s welcoming remarks and introduction of co-host and opening speaker, Mr. Peter Messina, senior vice president and chief operating officer of CAPS, who gave a talk on protecting against business interruption with a comprehensive business resilience and disaster recovery solution.
Afterwards, Mr. Brendan Flaherty, northeast representative, and Mr. Dick Sonderegger, storage engineer, of Datalink Corporation came to the podium to speak about how to develop an effective backup and disaster recovery strategy using VMware's Site Recovery Manager (SRM). Avocent’s Ms. Kris Chartier, northeast district sales manager, and Mr. Jon Lorton, SE, followed with a detailed talk on how to know, plan and manage a data center more efficiently.
The morning session concluded with a presentation offering key insights on measuring power and efficiency within a "green" data center by Mr. John Dynan, the regional manager of Server Technology.
Opening the afternoon session was Mr. Michael Sigourney, the president and co-founder of AVTECH Software. His presentation covered how to avoid the "Big 7" environmental threats facing data centers. Continuing the environmental theme, Mr. Nick Tosca, Cooper B-Line’s eastern regional representative, spoke about thermal management solutions that effectively handle heat in the data center. Closing comments by Revco’s Von Stein, networking conversations and a tour of the CAPS data center and workstation facilities wrapped up the day.
