Another Energy Christmas Cracker

Gareth Kloet, Head of Energy Prices at comments on a new tariff from npower - Sign Online 17:

"Competition is still strong in the energy sector and, following hot on the heels of the introduction of the British Gas Websaver 5 tariff last week, this new tariff from npower has burst to the top of the best tables with a price of £907 per annum for the average dual fuel customer.*

Once again this illustrates the great savings that can be made by those who shop around and make use of online tariffs. Those on the average standard tariff, paying by cash and cheque on receipt of the bill could save as much as £455 by switching to the npower Sign Online 17 tariff and paying by direct debit**, depending on where in the country they live.

It's great to see another significant price cut from one of the 'big 6' following the recent Ofgem report highlighting that the gap between wholesale and retail prices is larger than ever. Hopefully this trend will continue.

Whilst this is a variable tracker tariff, guaranteed to be at least 2% below npower's standard tariff, there is a £20 cancellation fee, per fuel, if you switch before 31st March 2011.

Whilst best buy tables provide a good indication of the market as a whole, it's important they are used in tandem with a Consumer Focus accredited energy price comparison site, such as, to make sure customers get the most appropriate tariff for their circumstances."
