In Central Texas, an energy efficient custom home built by Austin green builder Brad Marshall Homes has earned a 61 on the EnergySmart Home Scale. The typical American home is rated at 100, and each one-point drop equals 1% in energy savings. The Brad Marshall Homes rating of 61 means that the home is nearly 40% more energy efficient than comparable homes from other builders. The Brad Marshall Homes Life Home™ is Energy STAR qualified, promising lower ownership costs via significant utility savings, while still boasting all the upscale features sought by today’s home owners.

“During construction, our preliminary findings led us to believe that the home would earn a rating of 66, and we were thrilled to think we were building a home that would be 34% more energy efficient than the homes of other builders in the Austin area,” says Brad Marshall. “When the final test results came in with a rating of 61 – almost forty percent more efficient than the typical home – we had proof that our building techniques really work. We built a home that runs nearly 40% more efficiently than comparable homes for next to no added cost.”

Utilizing the latest techniques and technology available, Brad Marshall Homes is building smarter. They have moved away from the status quo and turned instead to advanced framing, superior insulation techniques, high efficiency windows, and efficient HVAC systems in order to build a more efficient home.

The BMH Life Home™ was established by Brad Marshall Homes as part of the company’s commitment to meet the Builders Challenge issued by the U.S. Department of Energy. By the year 2030, the DOE would like every American to be in a home that produces as much energy as it consumes. The DOE has challenged builders across the country to take the first step toward meeting this goal by building homes with a rating of 70 or lower. Brad Marshall Homes has committed to building at least twenty energy efficient homes in Central Texas over the next two years, as determined by an independent, accredited rater. Brad Marshall Homes is one of only four builders in the Austin area who have committed to meeting the Builders Challenge.

“With skyrocketing energy costs and no relief in sight, our home owners deserve the most energy efficient home we can build,” says Brad Marshall. “Our Life Home™ sets the standard for green building in Austin and the surrounding communities.”

The E-Scale is based on the home energy rating system established years ago by RESNET, to provide clear answers to consumer questions about a home’s energy efficiency. Brad Marshall Homes will place labels on the power panels of their qualifying homes. As more and more homebuyers become concerned about their homes’ energy rating, labels from Brad Marshall Homes will help increase the home’s resale value.
