Five Guys Burgers & Fries is opening today at 310 NE 78th Street (near Hazel Dell) Thursday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. Still owned by the couple and their five sons who started the chain, Five Guys is expanding nationally, with a goal of 27 locations in Oregon and Southwest Washington within five to eight years.

A very popular and iconic hamburger chain in the nation’s capital, frequented by First Lady Michelle Obama and others, opens in Vancouver today. Five Guys Burgers & Fries is opening today at 310 NE 78th Street (near Hazel Dell) today at 11 a.m.

Started in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia, Five Guys has built a cult-like following in the Washington, DC metro area -- and it has received the “Readers Choice” #1 hamburger award for the last nine years from Washington Magazine.

Still owned by the couple and their five sons who started the chain, Five Guys is expanding nationally, with a goal of 27 locations in Oregon and Southwest Washington within five to eight years.

“We will follow the same simple but effective formula that made Five Guys number one back east,” explained Bill Marble, President, Northwest Burgers & Fries, Inc., franchisee of Five Guys Burgers & Fries. “Five Guys Burgers & Fries are famous because they use only fresh ground beef. Potatoes are sliced on site and fried in peanut oil to a golden brown. Everything is made from the best quality ingredients we can buy.”

Unlike most fast food places, Marble said, the focus of Five Guys is on “food” not “fast.” Because it takes a little longer to cook the meal, Five Guys provides free in-the-shell peanuts for customers to munch on while waiting for their order.

Marble said the new Vancouver location represents a capital investment of $500,000.00 that employs 45 to 55 people. Once it attains its goal of 27 outlets in our metropolitan region, Marble said, Five Guys will provide jobs for 1,200 to 1,500 employees with an annual payroll of approximately $8.6 million, and with a total capital investment of $13.5 million.

“Even though we are in a turbulent economy, Five Guys is making a substantial investment in the Pacific Northwest because we believe in the quality and appeal of our product,” Marble said. “And once folks experience the great taste of Five Guys Burgers & Fries, we are confident they will become happy and loyal customers.”

Because Five Guys in Vancouver expects to be busy and popular, customers are urged to call-in orders at 503-657-6049. Business hours are from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
