Rivada Sea Lion Joint Venture Wins ARRA Grant Award for Alaska

The Rivada SeaLion Joint venture was selected for an award of $25.3M under the Obama Administration ARRA RUS Grant Program to service the rural broadband needs of Southwestern Alaska.

Rivada SeaLion, LLC is pleased to announce it has been selected by the Federal Government for a $25.3M Grant Award under the American Reconstitution and Recovery Act (ARRA) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Grant Program. This award was announced today by Vice President Joe Biden during ceremonies today and highlighted the important work to deliver critical rural broadband service to unserved areas of the Nation. Rivada SeaLion was selected to deliver unprecedented low cost, high speed broadband and Public Safety Interoperability to 53 technology challenged communities of Southwestern Alaska. The project is designed to dramatically enhance service to community centers, schools, medical clinics and Public Safety organizations. The project will involve a unique combination of wireless technologies to cope with the harsh climatic conditions of Alaska and yet deliver leading edge connectivity.

Rivada Sea Lion is a Joint Venture comprised of Sea Lion International of Anchorage, AK and Rivada Networks of Colorado Springs, CO. Sea Lion International with its United Utilities Inc. (UUI) subsidiary has provided telecommunications services to over 57 villages in Alaska. Rivada Networks delivers leading edge wireless and cellular broadband solutions for its customers Nationwide. Rivada SeaLion competed for selection among 2,200 US applicants and was announced as part of an initial group of 19 awardees under this particular phase of the US Department of Agriculture's RUS Grant Program.
