Government agency will leverage leading web content management solution to facilitate collaboration and organize research data

Percussion Software, a leading provider of Web Content Management (WCM) systems for customers with diverse web infrastructures, today announced that the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) has selected Percussion CM System and the Percussion Community Marketing Solution to power its websites and increase visitor engagement.

NHLBI, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, provides global leadership for a research, training, and education program to promote the prevention and treatment of heart, lung, and blood diseases. The agency is also tasked with communicating advances to the public and translating medical research for everyday use by families and healthcare professionals.

NHLBI wanted to enable its researchers to network medical research with peers, but collaborating across a large infrastructure was burdensome with their existing system. The creation of an online social environment in which researchers could find each other, share data and collaborate was a major goal driving the adoption of a new web content management system. Additionally, the agency faced other challenges including importing data from a multitude of diverse and disparate sources such as PubMed, a portal that holds over 19 million citations.

NHLBI engaged WelchmanPierpoint, a leader in Web operations strategy and governance, as part of a thorough selection process. It culminated in a proof of concept in which Percussion and one other vendor created environments for NHLBI staff to use the competing systems to build out bio pages, import RSS feeds, rich media and post blogs. NHLBI’s fifty-plus participants demonstrated success using CM System to create and publish their profiles with nearly no training, leading to Percussion’s selection.

Percussion CM System’s user interface will enable doctors and business users to incorporate different data types. The average user can easily import and organize rich content into pages without requiring any developer coding. NHLBI’s implementation of the Percussion Community Marketing solution will allow its staff and researchers to create and share:

  •     C.V. and Resumes
  •     Podcasts
  •     RSS feeds
  •     NHLBI YouTube Channel content
