Michael Mcintyre Laughs Loudest In viagogo’s Battle of the 2009 Comedy Tour

2009 has truly been the year for major comedy tours with everyone from veteran comedian Billy Connolly to Eddie Izzard and Ricky Gervais taking to the stage and entertaining the country. None more popular however, than funny man Michael McIntyre who has pipped Billy to the number one spot in the battle of comedy tickets traded on viagogo this year.

viagogo, Europe’s leading secondary ticketing company has today released details of the top ten comedy tickets traded on the site (http://www.viagogo.co.uk )this year and all of Britain’s favourite comedians made the list.

Relative newcomer to the comedy mainstream Michael McIntyre took centre stage however, with the highest number of tickets being traded for his shows. Having spent a number of years performing his stand-up routines in relative obscurity, McIntyre’s star has risen dramatically over the last couple of years and he has been nominated for numerous awards. He has now released two bestselling DVDs and performed to a total of half a million people in 2009! Little wonder then that fans were willing to pay up to £87 on viagogo to get their hands on a ticket to see his recent tour.

Old-hand Billy Connolly still came in at a respectable number two in terms of tickets traded and in fact, his tickets sold for more than McIntyre’s – reaching over £100 a ticket for his sold out Glasgow shows. This proves that sometimes the old ones are indeed the best.

Even controversial comedian Russell Brand made the grade this year, coming in at number five in the ticket charts to prove that ‘Sachsgate’ really didn’t do his career any harm...then again, who knows where he might have featured if it hadn’t happened...

Ed Parkinson, viagogo UK Director said: “This truly has been a great year for comedy with all the greats taking to the stage. The public’s appetite for comedy tours seems to be ever-increasing and with people paying up to at staggering £600 for the best seats to see Peter Kay this year, it seems it’s hard to put a price on a good laugh.”
