New York, NY (PRWEB) December 21, 2009
Acclaimed indie rock music Web site Stereogum http://www.stereogum.com just got a little bit louder with the launch of "Haunting The Chapel,” a new metal column penned by Stereogum senior writer and prominent authority on the genre, Brandon Stosuy. To celebrate the new column and say goodbye to the year, Stosuy today unveiled his countdown of The 30 Best Metal Albums of 2009.
Stosuy, who joined Stereogum in 2007, is well known as the creator and voice behind Pitchfork’s “Show No Mercy” column. Since its launch three years ago, the column has been the preeminent source for metal news and criticism online. Seeing an opportunity to both increase the frequency of his column, and mix up its format to better serve metal fans, Stosuy has relocated his column to Stereogum, dubbing it “Haunting the Chapel.”
“I saw a big opportunity to take my metal column to the next level on Stereogum, where it will be published several times a month as opposed to monthly on Pitchfork,” Stosuy explains. “It feels like a natural step forward — not just because Stereogum is the home to most of my music writing, but also because it affords me the flexibility to write about things as I discover them.”
“Stereogum Founder and Editor-In-Chief Scott Lapatine added, “Brandon’s wealth of metal knowledge never ceases to amaze me, and Stereogum readers have responded enthusiastically to our occasional coverage of the genre over the last few years. Allowing Brandon a regular forum to discuss the bands he’s most passionate about is a no-brainer. He is also the Stereogum blogger with the most tattoos.”

One of the most authoritative voices in the metal scene, Stosuy is the author of Up Is Up, But So Is Down: New York's Downtown Literary Scene, 1974-1992 which made The Village Voice’s 25 Favorite Books of 2006. In addition to writing daily for Stereogum, he is a contributing editor at The Believer magazine and has produced a series of highly acclaimed underground metal showcases in Brooklyn. He is currently working on an oral history of American black metal, as well as art installations that include metal themes.
