Consumer Engagement is King: New Community for Social Marketing Experts

Social marketing and engagement marketing are changing the world of marketing. Consumer and customer engagement is king. A new online community aims to connect marketers to share their views on these evolutions and learn from their peers.

Customer engagement and conversations are what marketing is all about

Nearly all marketing trend surveys for 2010 show that marketers plan to invest more in social media marketing, social email marketing, social CRM and other social forms of marketing.

All these forms of marketing can be categorized as ‘engagement marketing’.

Engagement marketing aims to engage people. It encourages them to participate in the evolution of a brand.

To allow marketers to share their insights on engagement marketing, connect with their peers and learn from other engagement marketing experts, four social media marketing experts launched a new online community for engagement marketers.

The community,, is open for marketers that want to share their views, connect to their blogs, discuss topics in the forum or simply learn from other experts.

Customer engagement and conversations are what marketing is all about. Rather than looking at consumers as passive receivers of messages, engagement marketers believe that consumers should be actively involved in the production and co-creation of marketing programs.

Engagement marketing attempts to connect more strongly consumers with brands by "engaging" them in a dialogue and two-way, cooperative interaction.

To join the community, marketers don’t have to be experts in engagement marketing (yet). As one of the founders, Renilde De Wit, states: “Being an expert doesn’t mean you know everything. That’s one of the very purposes of the community. It’s not only about showing and sharing what you know but also about asking questions and learning from others. If you don’t learn all the time in this business, you’re out of business”.

She continues: “Engagement marketing is about being where your customers are, having a cross-channel vision on sales and marketing, customer centricity, social marketing and creating valuable and authentic content and conversations”.
