Crime Prevention 101, the Personal Safety Radio Show with an optimistic perspective on a sober subject, features sexual assault and kidnapping survivor, Michelle Renee, subject of the Lifetime Movie Network feature "Held Hostage," who's now an award-winning author, speaker and family advocate for the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, on VoiceAmerica Variety Channel, Thursday, December 31, at 5 PM Pacific Time.

On October 29, 2009 at 8pm Eastern Time, Crime Prevention Specialist Susan Bartelstone interviews former bank executive Michelle Renee, who, along with her 7-yr old daughter, was kidnapped, held hostage, taped with explosives and forced to rob the bank where she was the branch manager. She now works with survivors of violence and abuse and her book, Held Hostage: The True Story of a Mother and Daughter's Kidnapping, was made into a movie for the Lifetime Movie Network. Also on the show is crime survivor and internationally-known self defense advocate Ellen Snortland, author of the classic Beauty Bites Beast, and Kim Estes, who founded the Peace of Mind organization to provide child safety workshops to parents and teachers after photos of her best friend's children were secretly posted on an infamous pedophile website.

It'd be a crime not to listen.

About Susan Bartelstone:
Years ago, Susan Bartelstone had a bad break-up with a guy, complete with physical and emotional bruises, and determined to learn how to protect herself. Today, she's a certified Crime Prevention Specialist and Personal Safety expert, with 17 years combined training in WWII Combatives, self defense and martial arts. Along the way, she deterred five extremely dangerous criminal encounters, fought her way out of a surprise attack and, for the past 18 years, has taught safety skills to men and women from such organizations as American Express, the U.S. Post Office and the Livery Cab Owners Coalition of New York.

Author of Think Fast and Prevent a Violent Crime: How to Respond to Danger in 20 Seconds (or Less!), which is based on her own experiences, she's been featured in a long and varied list of media; the "Today Show," "America's Most Wanted" and Self Magazine to name but a few.

Over the years, she's helped thousands of people solve their personal safety dilemmas with her practical advice--which stresses the many opportunities you have to avoid or defuse a criminal encounter and how to use your brains instead of your muscles in a fight.
