Thwapr (http://www.thwapr.com ), the new mobile-to mobile video sharing communications platform, is rapidly expanding its management team with the appointment of Leigh Newsome as the vice president of user experience. Newsome has been working with Thwapr during its development phase to ensure a simple and highly intuitive experience for end users.
“We aim to make Thwapr as easy and consumer friendly as any Apple or Google product,” said Newsome. “When working with mobile technology that has the potential to be used on 400 million phones, the magic is in the ability to present an incredibly complex and sophisticated technology in a simplistic, user friendly experience.”
Thwapr is a new technology platform that allows sharing compatibility of video clips between virtually all mobile devices regardless of carrier, anywhere in the world. Currently in Beta, the platform supports more than 165 different types of mobile phones and requires only text messaging and a mobile browser to send, receive, and share personal content on any mobile phone or computer.
Thwapr CEO, Bruce Goldstein said, "From the beginning, with each hire and each stage of development, we put the user front and center in everything we do. Leigh is the right person to advocate for the user on our behalf and help us create a culture where the user is king."
Newsome brings 15 years of technology development experience to Thwapr. For eight years, Newsome led all worldwide Web initiatives for Digidesign, a division of Avid Technology, an Academy Award winning one billion dollar hardware and software manufacturer in the audio/video industry. During his tenure at Avid he pioneered solutions including real-time software licensing for Pro Tools plug-ins, cloud-based copy protection methodologies, e-commerce, and audio/video interactive applications.
Newsome was the CTO/co-founder of Airspun, a patent-pending SaaS solution focused on syndicating audio content via the web to broadcast radio stations, internet radio stations, and mobile phones. Airspun's technology was utilized by national radio station affiliates including ClearChannel, Entercom, and CBS Radio. He is currently an adjunct professor at New York University teaching a graduate course focused on technology development for web and mobile platforms.
