Bloggers from around the world have joined to form two cooperative networks: GadboutMedia.com and GadaboutHealth.com. Launched earlier this month, the two networks are the newest to stake a claim in cyberspace, appealing to the everyday Internet user.

With 20 core bloggers per network, Gadabout Media focuses on book reviews, entertainment news, parenting, pets, beauty, gardening, and much more. Gadabout Health targets general health, healthy home, diet and fitness, caregivers, mental health and senior health, with more categories to come.

Gadabout Media and Gadabout Health were founded by co-owners Gayla Baer, founder and publisher MomGadget.com, and Marijke Vroomen-Durning, publisher and editor of MontrealOnTheCheap.com. They have many years of experience running, contributing to and writing for websites, as well as print publications.

Gadabout means "One who roams about in search of amusement or social activity." Baer thought it a fitting name for a blogging network: “The idea for Gadabout Media came about at the height of the economic crisis when so many blog networks were closing up shop or undergoing significant layoffs. I knew there had to be a way to keep bloggers writing and earning without operating in the red,” she says.

Gadabout Media provides information and entertainment but readers get the bonus of a health network, Gadabout Health, a patient-driven medical site that's jargon-free and written by real people with real experiences. “We aspire to be a landing point for information, education, awareness and support,” explains Baer.

The partners aim to simplify the blogging network environment. “Calling the network a cooperative network is a way to draw attention to how each blogger contributes to its success,” says Vroomen-Durning. “Writers want to feel that they have some control over their work and, in our mind, this is the best way to give them that control.”
