Fevered Dreams Productions Lost Sparrows of Roodepoort received the "Best US Documentary" award at the International Film Festival of Ireland.
This film shows the world: "just what the human spirit is capable of when faced with something immensely dark and frightening," said Mary Ann Ponce, Fevered Dreams producer.
The Lost Sparrows of Roodepoort is a documentary about Sparrow Village, an AIDS orphanage and hospice in Roodepoort, South Africa. It is the legacy and inspiration of filmmaker David Ponce and through to the dedication and talent of his friend Brock Carter has been lovingly completed. Mary Ann Ponce accepted the award on behalf of filmmakers Brock Carter and David Ponce and the children of Sparrow Village.
"The hope and joy which David found at Sparrow Village was life altering. It inspired him to tell this story and gave him the courage to face something dark and frightening in his own life. It is a truly amazing thing that Brock Carter stepped in and lovingly completed this film after we lost David to leukemia three years ago today. This award means a more than you can know to everyone who has supported the "The Lost Sparrows of Roodepoort," said Mary Ann Ponce.
Next stop for “The Lost Sparrows” is the International Film Festival South Africa held near Durban, South Africa from November 2nd through November 6th, 2009.
"The Lost Sparrows" will go home to South Africa for the International Film Festival South Africa from November 2nd through November 8, 2009 in Dargle.
"We are honored that 'Cinema Mostra Aids' has requested 'The Lost Sparrows,'" to highlight at this years event, said Mary Ann Ponce. The Cinema Mostra Aids event will be held from August 28 to September 3, 2009, in São Paulo, Brazil. The event is promoted by Grupo Pela Vidda / SP, a non-profit Brazilian organization which has been working in the fight against Aids for over 20 years.
The film was recently was awarded an 2009 Accolade Award of Merit and was featured in May, 2009 at the Riverside California International Film Festival.
