Lexmark's experience in optimizing business processes, combined with FileTrail's expertise in records management, provides our customers with an extremely effective and affordable way to track hard-copy information and physical assets using RFID technology.

Today, FileTrail Inc, the leading provider of browser-based records management software and RFID technology, announced an alliance with Lexmark International, Inc. to create a complete end-to-end, RFID-enabled solution for item management, tracking, and printing. The alliance combines FileTrail's industry-leading RFID software and services with Lexmark's innovative RFID solution on the T654 monochrome laser printer.

"We're very excited about joining forces with Lexmark," said Darrell Mervau, Vice President of Business Development with FileTrail. "We're bringing together the best of both worlds - RFID-enabled tracking and management plus RFID laser print technology. Together, we've created a complete, closed-loop solution using RFID that automates the processes of physical item management. Working with Lexmark delivers additional value to our customers and enhances our solutions for managing and tracking evidence, assets, library books, and records."

How The Solution Works:
Using FileTrail's RFID-enabled technology, businesses gain a highly configurable method for item collecting, logging, tracking, and delivery. They'll have the option to secure exits, automatically track items as they move from desk-to-desk, and find missing items quickly with FileTrail's portable Detector™. With an intuitive interface, the FileTrail system is easy to use. Plus, it's 100% browser based - making it easy to access from anywhere.

Lexmark's award-winning T654 monochrome laser printer and RFID Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Option, optimized for Generation 2 RFID tags, further streamlines the solution. Helping customers optimize their workflow, the device allows users to print, program, and verify long-lasting RFID embedded media used to identify and track items, while also continuing to print everyday business documents. To further extend the flexibility of the Lexmark device, additional output expanders can be added so that print jobs can be separated, along with additional media drawers, as their business needs grow.

The solution can be applied to businesses across many industries that are seeking cost-efficient options when it comes to managing an inventory of physical items. Plus it can integrate with existing processes, reduce search and tracking time, and help create best practices.

"We cover the full lifecycle of item management and tracking," said Mervau. "No matter the industry, we've made it possible for a company to benefit from RFID technology at every step in their physical item tracking and management needs."

FileTrail and Lexmark even offer lower-cost alternatives as compared to businesses hosting the software themselves and/or using a traditional RFID printer. FileTrail offers a Hosted RFID Solution where they host the FileTrail software on their servers and handle all backups and updates. And if users already own the Lexmark T654 monochrome laser printer, the RFID UHF Option, as well as other components, can easily be ordered as an upgrade.

"Businesses, especially in recent times, are working to get the most out of their printing dollars and drive greater efficiencies in their workflow," said Marty Canning, Lexmark Vice President and President of its Printing Solutions and Services Division. "Lexmark's experience in optimizing business processes, combined with FileTrail's expertise in records management, provides our customers with an extremely effective and affordable way to track hard-copy information and physical assets using RFID technology."
