Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival 2010 Date Set for August 8 at JCT. Kitchen & Bar

Ginger was a Sweet Tomato

Sunday, August 9, 2009 marked the first annual Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival at JCT. Kitchen & Bar, which featured some of Atlanta’s best chefs, mixologists and Southeastern farmers who joined forces to benefit Georgia Organics. The festival was a huge success – approximately 700 guests attended, and the event raised $5,000 for Georgia Organics. As a result, Ford Fry, owner and executive chef of JCT. Kitchen & Bar and the Festival’s founder, is already busy planning next year’s sequel and has set the date for Sunday, August 8, 2010.

This event is an excellent opportunity for chefs and attendees to meet local producers and develop longstanding relationships in order to further support the local food movement. Some of Atlanta’s best chefs and mixologists are paired with local farmers to create over-the-top tomato dishes and cocktails for guests to sample.

This year, high-profile judges including Restaurant Editor Andrew Knowlton of Bon Appetit, Senior Food Writer Donna Florio of Southern Living and Food/Nutrition Writer and Registered Dietician Carolyn O’Neil chose the best dish and best beverage. The judges presented these awards to Owner/Chef Joe Truex of Repast for his summer tomato composition and Mixologist Lara Creasy of JCT. Kitchen & Bar for her “Ginger was a Sweet Tomato” cocktail, crowning them the festival’s Tomato King & Queen.
