What is a blogger's favorite food? People can follow their senses to relive early rural Florida on Saturday, May 1st and learn how Cracker Country is using new technology to reach out to a broader audience and connecting them to the past.
Every first Saturday of the month (except February) Cracker Country opens to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for its Discover the Past program. This month only Cracker Country is offering a great deal to those who act quickly! The first 75 pre-registered guests will receive museum admission for only $1 and are invited to a free old-fashion breakfast at 9:30 a.m., which includes sausage gravy and biscuits. Guests need to pre-register by filling out the online registration form at http://fs6.formsite.com/crackercountry/form825474256/index.html to reserve a seat at the Country Breakfast.
At this special event, Cracker Country will introduce new features for those who have internet capable cell phones. Be the first to test the newly designed audio tour on a cell phone. Also, by following Cracker Country on Twitter and Facebook, people can participate in its virtual scavenger hunt and have a chance to win two tickets to the May 14 Country Throwdown concert at the Ford Amphitheatre, iTunes gift cards, and museum passes.
All guests will be able to participate in hands-on activities such as making butter, spinning wool, twisting rope, and helping to take care of crops. Also, come see the new spring babies, Cotton Patch Geese, that recently hatched! General admission for Discover the Past for an adult admission ticket is $6.00 each; students six to twelve years old and senior citizen tickets are $5.00 each. Children five and under are admitted free. Parking is free for this event when visitors enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance.
Mother's Day Gift Baskets -- Mother's Day is Sunday, May 9th. This year why not give mother a gift basket filled with a selection of unique gifts from Cracker Country. Visit the Cracker Country General Store on Saturday May 1, select from the many gifts and books, and staff will arrange a gift basket, at no additional charge.
Summer Hands-On History Tours for Youth Groups: youth organizations will have the opportunity to learn about the past, and become a part of it. Led by a knowledgeable historical interpreters, youth groups can spend the morning experiencing life as a Florida pioneer through hands-on chores and practices of the late 1800s. Summer Hands- on History tours are offered June 15-July 1 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The cost of the tour is $5.00 per person.
