"Best Gay Bar of 2009" Winners Chosen by GayCities Member Votes

Splash Bar in New York captured the grand prize--"Bar I'd cross the country for"--besting Chicago's Sidetrack and Los Angeles' Abbey in a close vote. GayCities will send one lucky member on a trip to New York to enjoy a night at the club.

GayCities.com, the world's largest LGBT travel and nightlife site, today announced the winners of its first annual "Best Gay Bars 2009," based on the voting of its international membership.

Splash Bar in New York captured the grand prize--"Bar I'd cross the country for"--besting Chicago's Sidetrack and Los Angeles' Abbey in a close vote. GayCities will send one lucky member on a trip to New York to enjoy a night at the club, compliments of GayCities sponsors Delta Airlines and Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants.

The gay GayCities community elected winners in seven other categories, from stripper to leather bars, nominated by the GayCities staff out of more than 2,500 bar listings on the site:

Best Dance Bar: Bourbon Pub/Parade, New Orleans
Best Country/Western Bar: Round Up Saloon, Dallas
Best Stripper Bar: Dick's Cabaret, Phoenix
Best Leather Bar: Ramrod, Fort Lauderdale
Best Lesbian Bar: Egyptian Club, Portland, Oregon
Best Drag Bar: Parliament House, Orlando
Best Bear Bar: Lone Star Saloon, San Francisco

In addition, GayCities members voted the best gay bar in their own home town. Nearly 70 cities worldwide had winners, including:
