Counterpoint Systems, the leading provider of software solutions for rights management, royalty accounting and licensing agreements, is making it easier for record labels to sell their wares on-line. The company has developed a new feature for its Record Maestro product that allows labels to export song data in a format directly compatible with FUGA, a leading digital music distribution platform. Labels can now deliver music, song information and even artwork to a host of online retailers instantly, without having to reenter or reformat data.
“Working with online retailers can be challenging especially for small- to mid-sized labels as retailers require song data in different formats,” said Counterpoint Systems director of sales Dan Cox. “FUGA offers a solution to the problem by serving as an intermediary between labels and retailers, managing all of the steps related to reformatting and delivery.
“With Record Maestro’s new export function, our customers now have a seamless way to take advantage of FUGA’s service. We believe it will lead to increased sales and lower administrative costs.”
Rebecca Driessen, Chief Operating Office of Independent IP, developer of FUGA, said that she expects integration with Record Maestro to pay immediate dividends. “Many of our customers are already users of Record Maestro and they will benefit greatly from this new feature,” she said. “We also see this as a great way to introduce our service to other labels worldwide.” Labels using FUGA include Armada Music, Cr2 Records and Ultra Records. It serves such online retailers as iTunes, Napster, eMusic, Amazon and Liquid Audio.
Integration with FUGA is included in the latest version of Record Maestro, as part of its upgraded Digital Distribution module. In addition to managing music sales and calculating royalties payments, the upgraded module now allows users to store metadata, such as artist, title, genre and year of release, required by online retailers. Metadata can also be linked to music files and artwork. All of that information can then be directly exported to Fuga.
“Labels can generate all the files required to work with digital stores and sell music online,” explained Cox. “Additionally, Record Maestro accepts sales files from digital retailers for use in calculating royalties paid to publishers and artists. It eliminates much of the data entry that can make managing online sales time consuming and unprofitable.”
