Grassroots Effort Drawing Thousands of Catholics Back to Church

Local parishioners around the country throw their support behind Catholics Come movement

Catholic parishioners across the U.S. are inviting their neighbors, relatives and co-workers back to their church family for the new year using creative television commercials developed by Catholics Come Home. org. "Catholics Come is really working. It was tougher to find a seat at Mass last Sunday!" says Arthur, a Colorado Springs area parishioner.

Catholics Come Home, Inc. is a lay not-for-profit Catholic organization which creates and broadcasts media messages extending a gentle invitation to inactive Catholics and others to come home to the Catholic faith. “Our invitation is simple,” says President and Founder Tom Peterson. “We are Catholic. Welcome home.” The grassroots movement is able to air television commercials thanks to the support of numerous Catholic families who are eager to share their Catholic faith with friends, relatives, neighbors and coworkers.

Catholics Come multimedia campaigns are currently running in major cities across the country reaching 17.5 million viewers in the archdioceses of Chicago and Omaha, and the dioceses of Sacramento, Colorado Springs, Lincoln, Rockford, Joliet and Providence. In a few weeks, Catholics Come will launch additional campaigns in Seattle and Green Bay, followed by Atlanta, Charlotte, Albuquerque and others. “I’m a fallen-away Catholic. Those CCH commercials on TV got to me,” says Faith, a recent Catholic returnee. “Yesterday I went to Confession & Mass. It felt great…Keep those commercials coming…!” In Phoenix and Corpus Christi, where the commercials first aired, it is estimated that 100,000 inactive Catholics and converts came home to the Catholic faith.

All of the commercials direct viewers to or to (Spanish website) to learn more about the Catholic faith and returning to the Catholic Church. The Web sites have also extended the reach of Catholics Come Home outside the United States. “Though I come from Malaysia where airing of Christian TV commercials and TV programs is not allowed, I thank God that He has allowed many Catholics like us to access websites like Catholics Come Home…. through the internet!” says Linda.

Catholics Come commercials run on all major networks in English, Spanish and Polish, and are also closed captioned for the hearing impaired.

The local campaigns precede a national campaign to be launched in early 2011. The momentum of is also growing internationally in places like Australia, where the Catholics Come team met with the Archdioceses of Sydney and Melbourne in December of 2009 to discuss implementation of Catholics Come campaigns next year. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit media apostolate, dedicated to producing and airing Catholic evangelism television ads on local, national, and international television networks.
