Simon J. Samaha, M.D., recently was confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate as one of two new public members of the board of the New Jersey Health Care Facilities Financing Authority (The Authority).

Dr. Samaha is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Summit Medical Group, New Jersey’s largest independently-operated, multispecialty medical practice. Dr. Samaha has extensive experience in strategic and fiscal planning, operations, business development, and information systems. Prior to joining Summit, Dr. Samaha spent a large part of his professional career in various roles of successive responsibility at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, culminating with the roles of Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, in which he oversaw the 375-member University Physicians Practice. His tenure at Cooper includes his designation as Acting Chief Operating Officer and Chief Information Officer/Vice President of Information Technology. Dr. Samaha continues his interest in this expertise as a member of the New Jersey Health Information Technology Commission. Dr. Samaha earned his M.B.A. at New York University Stern School of Business, New York, N.Y., his M.S. in Information Systems at Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pa., and his M.D. at Saint Joseph University in Lebanon. He is board certified in internal medicine and practiced in internal medicine until 2004. He resides in Haddonfield, New Jersey.

The Authority is the primary issuer of municipal bonds for New Jersey's health care organizations. Created in 1972 by an act of the Legislature to provide not-for-profit health care providers with access to low-cost capital, the Authority's statutory powers were expanded in 1998 to include financing for all health care organizations or components thereof.
