On February 14, 2010, Indian heart surgeon Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian will launch his new book, "47 HEARTS" (http://www.47hearts.com) in a 24-hour long "Heart Kids Tweet-a-thon" - and donate all profits to charity.

The event, to be held on "A Day For Hearts" at social networking site Twitter, will raise awareness and funds to sponsor life-saving heart surgery for under-privileged children born with congenital heart defects.

"47 HEARTS - How To Live Your Dreams With Passion, Purpose and Persistence" is a 116-page story showing how you too can change a life of meaningless meandering into one of purposeful passion by following forty-seven easy principles.

All profits from book sales go to the Dr.Mani Children Heart Foundation, a non-profit Trust which has collected over $135,000 in contributions since 2003 and sponsored 55 heart operations on children.

"Heart surgery in India costs as little as $3,000 - but most families can't afford even this," said Dr.Mani.

Congenital heart defects (CHD) affect 7 in every 1,000 children born. There are an estimated 42 million people worldwide with CHD, one half of them children. Most require expensive surgery to stay alive.

"More babies are born with congenital heart defects than with Spina Bifida, Down's syndrome and hearing loss," says the heart surgeon and social entrepreneur, who turned to the Internet for raising funds to support his critical mission.

The day-and-night Heart Kids blog (and Twitter) marathon has been an annual event since 2003. Friends, family, fellow bloggers, and often total strangers make pledges to sponsor a child's treatment, just as they might sponsor someone in a walk-a-thon.

At times of crisis like the recent earthquake in Haiti, Twitter has proven to be an effective medium to create social change and raise much-needed funds to help non-profit activities. On February 14, 2010, through the "Heart Kids Tweet-a-thon", it will help save the lives of little kids born with heart defects.
