"Circles of Change with Dr. Zara Larsen", show broadcast live from the Southern Arizona Horse Expo in Tucson, Arizona this past Saturday, January 16th and raised money to benefit Equine Voices Horse Rescue and Sanctuary. The special live radio and web stream focused on multi-faceted careers and connections to the equestrian world and is now available via Complimentary Podcast download at http://www.thelarsengroup.com. In addition, there is a full library of complimentary podcasts from the prior 160 shows.
In its third season, "Circles of Change with Dr. Zara Larsen: Where Your Path is Created by Walking on It" advises not running in circles, but how people can circle back and pull upon their lifetime of experiences and connections to define a new career trajectory. A blend of pragmatic advice and often unconventional wisdom, Dr. Larsen partners with respected business and personal change consultants and featured guests every Saturday from 9-11 a.m. (MT) on Journal Broadcasting's 104.1 FM "The Truth", Tucson News Talk FM. http://www.1041thetruth.com
Her guests this week features renowned contemporary artist and historian Allan Mardon, Southwestern wildlife painter and sculptor Bill Moomey, Dances with Wolves screenwriter and wild animal advocate Michael Blake, and custom cowboy boot entrepreneur and retired veterinarian Dr. Jim Hill
"During challenging economic times, there is no better way to inspire people to positively embrace change in their careers and organizations than to tap into the spirited stories of talented individuals such as the four men we hosted today," said Dr. Larsen, show host and president of a change leadership consulting, executive and career coaching firm.
A former illustrator for Time Magazine and Sports Illustrated, Allan Mardon discussed his newly released oil painting, "A Celebration of the Horse," which was developed specifically for the Horse Expo. Proceeds from initial print sales benefit Equine Voices Horse Rescue and Sanctuary. "This painting with its vibrant colors and magical, luminous horses includes so many elements of the history of the horse. It has something in it for everyone - whether they are as connected to the horse world as most of us here today are, or not," noted an enthusiastic patron.
Bill Moomey is well-known in the equestrian world as the quarter horse rancher of the Coy's Bonanza lineage. His multiple careers included industrial design in the beverage and toy industries, television and movie making, and award-winning cowboy, wildlife and western paintings and bronze sculptures featured in museums and private collections around the world. Mr. Moomey and Dr. Larsen discussed one of his earlier movies, On the Fifth Day, a film he wrote, directed, filmed and produced over 30 years ago on the history of the quarter horse. It is narrated by Loren Green from the television show Bonanza.
Michael Blake appeared on the show between appearances in the Expo's main arena to speak about his new book Into the Stars, a fictional story about a World War I soldier who falls behind enemy lines and meets a horse that becomes his lifelong compatriot. An author of eight books, Mr. Blake's screenplay Dances with Wolves catapulted his international movie career. He is a passionate advocate for wild animals and has testified before US Congress on behalf of the preservation of wolves, mountain lions, and most recently the wild mustang horse. Mr. Blake wrote the book Twelve the King to memorialize one of the four wild mustangs he has rescued, as featured during the 100th "Circles of Change" show in 2008.
Those who love to wear not just any cowboy boot know of the custom, "wearable art" of the JB Hill Cowboy Boot company from El Paso, Texas. Founded by Dr. Jim Hill, a race horse veterinarian, the small team of boot makers (many of whom are from multiple generations of the same family) takes great pride in their specialized fit process and exotic, high quality and durable leathers. The equestrian world also knows Dr. Hill and one of his partners as the men who in the early 1970's invested $17,500 "on a hunch" in a young racehorse named "Seattle Slew," who surprised the world and won the Triple Crown.
The event was the first time that major facets of the equestrian world - Western, English, and Dressage - along with nationally-recognized trainers, product and service providers united to raise money for several non-profit organizations based in Tucson. "It was a privilege to see this diverse community of dedicated professionals come together to raise awareness and proceeds to help rescue, rehabilitate and place horses," said Dr. Zara Larsen, "and I am happy to support their efforts through my Circles of Change show."
