LinearCube’s new look, based on the Alfresco Share interface, debuted earlier this month to many positive customer reviews. The updated interface adds several new user-friendly features– including email invitations, a streamlined document editing process, and integration with blog management software and wikis – to the LinearCube document management system.
“It’s an exciting update to the system. The old interface was based on a traditional web model. The system worked well, but it didn’t have a lot of interaction. It wasn’t always easy to collaborate with different users. The new interface is much more intuitive, and adds a lot to the user experience,” says Ajay Khater, President at LinearCube.
One of the new features of the Alfresco Share system includes personalized dashboard options. Users can now configure a custom view of their most important documents to appear on their dashboards every time they log in – and keep track of activities among certain documents with an alert system. The dashboard can also compartmentalize your company’s documents, an added security measure. For instance, you can program users’ dashboards so that they have access to your marketing document library, but not your accounting or billing documents.
Another new feature of the Alfresco Share interface is the automatic email invitation generator. Inviting new users to collaborate on a document or project can be done with the click of a button: enter a personal email address into the system and the new user will receive an automatic invitation to view or edit documents. Under the old interface, collaborating wasn’t always easy. In order to invite a new collaborator, you had to create new user names for each individual and go through a number of manual steps. Now, those manual steps have been eliminated.
Document Editing Simplified
A revised toolbar simplifies the document editing system. Thumbnails provide direct access to each document, so that you can now download, view, and edit your documents quickly with the Alfresco Share interface. The document library will automatically track any edits or new versions of your documents Previously, users had to go through a series of steps to “check out” and “check in” documents that were being edited. Each document also comes with its own URL, so you can send email links to specific documents for anyone to view.
New Social Web Capabilities
In addition, the new interface has social web capabilities, such as blogs and wikis. This allows users to create and edit blogs or wikis for a project or a site on the document management system. Additionally it can configure reading and publishing to external blogs based on WordPress and TypePad.

Businesses can now collaborate, edit, discuss, backup, and store important company data with the new interface, without sacrificing security or reliability.
