Banner Sales and Consulting, Inc. of Union Lake, Mich. was honored with the Michigan Green Industry Association 2009 Supplier Partner Award in recognition of the supplier’s exemplary service and support for the green industry at their December Awards Banquet.

“We are dedicated to supplying the commercial arborist, landscape maintenance contractor and municipalities with the best and most effective quality tree care products available,” said Dan Banks, co-owner of Banner. “Our goal is to help commercial arborists, landscape maintenance contractors and municipalities with hands-on assistance to identify invasive species and diseases and to provide solutions for protecting landscapes and solving most tree problems.” Their consulting service will evaluate sites, offer maintenance programs and problem-solving recommendations.  

“In addition to providing knowledge and products to the contractor, we contribute to the industry for research of new, cost effective products, treatments and application methods,” said Doug Fenner, co-owner of Banner.

Banner sells specialty fertilizers, nutrients, organic soil amendments, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, injection systems, spray equipment and other arborist supplies to the tree care industry. One of Banner’s areas of expertise is Emerald Ash Borer treatment. “The treatment we recommend has been credited with the survival and recovery of Ash trees since 2001,” said Fenner. They recommend annual applications of the pesticide Imidacloprid in areas with heavy infestations or in the curative stages, and the use of Imidacloprid every other year in preventive situations. The preferred application method is trunk injections that do not require drilling because it does not produce boring holes that permanently damage and waste the tree’s energy recovering from treatment wounds. In addition, fertilizers and root stimulants are used to keep the trees as healthy as possible.
