Research from Post Office Car Insurance has revealed that more than a quarter of drivers put themselves and other road users in danger by cutting back on car maintenance, potentially invalidating their car insurance in the process.
Almost half of respondents in the Post Office Car Insurance research (48 per cent) admitted to cutting back on repairs to save money despite the requirement for cars to be fully maintained to remain roadworthy. A roadworthy vehicle is often a condition of car insurance policies.
The cost-cutting also extends to skipping annual servicing. The Post Office Car Insurance survey showed that under-30s are most likely to forgo this, with 40 per cent putting off a service to save money in the last 12 months, once again potentially invalidating their car insurance policies.
Post Office Car Insurance is advising drivers that having a properly maintained vehicle should be considered essential, especially during the winter months when cold, icy weather conditions can make driving more difficult. Failing to repair a car could result in it being deemed unroadworthy, which can affect car insurance validity.
