VISTAtsi GIS Expert Gary Siorek to share insights from BRAC BIM Study at Delaware GIS Conference

VISTA Technology Services, Inc. (VISTAtsi) geospatial information systems (GIS) expert Gary Siorek will be a featured speaker at the Delaware GIS 2010 Conference in Dover, Delaware on February 10th. Siorek, a certified GIS professional, will lead a technical session on the impact of Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools on GIS for local community planning efforts and federal facility management requirements.

“VISTAtsi is a recognized thought leader in the area of federal real property asset management,” remarked VISTAtsi President and CEO, David B. Baxa. “Gary Siorek is a valuable member of our team, and the GIS community at large. His session will provide valuable insights and best practices for government planners.”

The upcoming presentation also draws on lessons learned during a Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) BIM study in Alexandria, Virginia for which VISTAtsi won an industry award for best collaboration. It will highlight, and expand upon, public safety considerations and analysis as it relates to both NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 1710 rules, as well as current federal anti-terrorism standoff requirements for the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and General Service Administration.

“I am excited to share best practices for integrating architectural site and floor plan data from BIM and BIM-compatible applications—like AutoCAD Revit, Onuma Planning System, Google Sketchup, ARCHIBUS FM—within ESRI ArcGIS and Google Earth for planning studies,” explained Siorek, who holds a Facilities Management Geographer position at VISTAtsi. “Potentially, federal organizations could utilize these tools to help meet real property and asset management requirements. They also could have a positive impact on local community planning efforts.”

The Delaware Geographic Data Committee (DGDC) is conference organizer. The DGDC is a cooperative effort among all levels of government and the academic and private sectors, to build a Delaware GIS community and improve the coordination of the use of GIS tools and spatial data in the state. The annual conference will take place at the Sheraton Conference Center in Dover, Delaware. Siorek’s session takes place at 10:15 a.m. on February 10th.
